Melanie Gross is an Assyriologist, specializing in the socio-economic history of Mesopotamia in the 1st millennium BCE. She earned her master's degree (with distinction) in Ancient Near Eastern Archaeology from the University of Innsbruck (2009) and her Ph.D degree (with distinction) in Assyriology from the University of Vienna (2014). Her dissertation on the Neo-Assyrian royal houshold was published in 2020 as a monograph titled "At the Heart of an Empire". After completing her doctorate, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at several universities, including KU Leuven and Leiden University. She is currently a lecturer at VU Amsterdam (ACASA) and also holds a postdoctoral position within the DigEanna project (https://ucrisportal.univie.ac.at/de/projects/digeanna-eine-digitale-rekonstruktion-des-eanna-archivs/), located in Vienna, Jena and Warsaw.
