Marjan is a PhD Candidate in the department of Environmental Economics at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He has a background in applied economics with an expertise in economic policy from Utrecht University (MSc). Marjan has gathered broad and relevant experience in research, data analysis and writing policy recommendations as a research assistant in the economic analysis centres in Macedonia and the Netherlands.
During the master studies, he worked on a variety of projects ranging from contemporary labour market challenges in the Netherlands, to designing policies, interventions and Randomized Control Trial (RCT) studies aimed to increase the quality of life of the young people in Uganda with a collaboration with Reach a Hand – Uganda (RAHU) organisation as part of the Global Challenges programme by Utrecht University.
As a Research assistant at Center forEconomic Analyses, he assisted the work on high-profile cases conducting theoretical and empirical economic analysis. The tasks included: conducting literature and data research, applying technical skills and knowledge of economic theory and econometrics from academic and policy literature, cleaning, managing and analysing data. Interpreting the results and translating them for a non-technical audience, assisting in writing reports and presentations, contributing to the team’s intellectual capital.
Currently, his PhD research revolves around combining digital citizen engagement and tailored behavioural interventions to stimulate system-optimal clean energy investments at scale. He will design treatment arms and estimate their effects using A/B-testing (RCTs) with a goal of creating a decision-support system that will inform citizens and policymakers in a customised manner. His work is part of the ALIGN4Energy project in the Netherlands.
