dr. Marc D. Bahlmann

Assistant Professor, School of Business and Economics, Management and Organisation

Personal information

dr. Marc Bahlmann currently is employed as assistant professor (tenured) at the Management and Organization department of the School of Business and Economics (SBE). In addition to his research activities (see below), Marc teaches several courses at Bachelor's and Master's level. Moreover, he supervises the annual Amsterdam Research Project (ARP). ARP offers 20 selected Master's students the opportunity to conduct market research in emerging market countries for Western companies.

Research

Marc Bahlmann's research centres on irrational decision-making surrounding innovation-decisions. For instance, he studied how venture capitalists' investments in start-ups are affected by start-up entrepreneurs' physical attractiveness and ethnic backgrounds. Also, he considered the influence of VCs' own physical attractiveness in relation to their risk-taking behaviors. Next to that, Marc studies irrational innovation decisions by CEOs and Top Management Teams (TMTs).

His research has been published in, among others, Journal of Economic Geography (Oxford Univ. Press), Industrial & Corporate Change (Oxford Univ. Press), and Industry & Innovation (Routledge).
