Maarten van Oordt is Professor of Money and Banking at the School of Business and Economics of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He previously held increasingly senior positions at De Nederlandsche Bank (2009-2015) and the Bank of Canada (2015-2021). As a Research Advisor at the Bank of Canada, his work focused on electronic payment systems, cryptocurrencies, and central bank digital currencies. His research has appeared in leading academic journals, including Management Science, the Journal of Money, Credit and Banking, the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, and the Journal of Political Economy. He received his PhD from Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2013.
