Lorna Downie is a PhD candidate at the department of Knowledge, Information and Innovation of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She holds an MPhil degree in Innovation, Strategy and Organisation from the University of Cambridge, and a BSc degree in Management Sciences from Loughborough University. Prior to returning to academia for her MPhil degree, Lorna worked for a number of years in industry, predominantly focusing on the delivery of AI projects and the implementation of new ways of working. In her research, Lorna explores the impact of datafication and algorithmic technologies on work and organizing. Currently, she is doing an ethnographic study following the use of data and algorithmic technologies in several elite sports organisations, from their preparation for the Summer Olympic Games (mid-2024), through the competition itself, and the evaluation that follows.
