Personal Information
Lisa-Marie Komp is sinds september 2021 als universitair docent verbonden aan de sectie migratierecht van de afdeling Staats- en Bestuursrecht . Zij geeft onderwijs op het gebied van toegang tot rechtsbescherming voor migranten en asielzoekers en mensenrechtenschendingen en grensbewaking. Tevens is zij betrokken bij het onderwijzen van pleitvaardigheden door middel van moot courts voor studenten.
Naast haar werkzaamheden bij de VU werkt Lisa-Marie Komp sinds 2013 als advocaat. Momenteel adviseert en procedeert zij zowel op nationaal als op internationaal vlak in zaken waarin aansprakelijkheid voor mensenrechtenschendingen centraal staat bij Prakken d’Oliveira Human Rights Lawyers.

Lisa-Marie Komp works as a University Lecturer in the field of migration law in the department of administrative and constitutional law since September 2021. She teaches in the field of access to justice for migrants and asylum seekers, human rights violations and border control. Additionally, she is engaged with supervising moot courts and teaching pleading skills to students. Alongside her work at the VU, Lisa-Marie Komp has been a practicing attorney at law since 2013. She currently advises and litigates in national as well as international proceedings that concern liability for human rights violations at Prakken d’Oliveira Human Rights Lawyers.
Research
In oktober 2020 promoveerde Lisa-Marie Komp onder begeleiding van Prof. T. Spijkerboer (promotor) en Prof. L.Slingenberg (co-promotor) aan de VU met haar promotieonderzoek "Border Deaths at Sea and the Right to Life in the European Convention on Human Rights". Haar promotieonderzoek zag op staatsaansprakelijkheid voor extraterritoriale mensenrechtenschendingen. Daarbij heeft zij onderzocht in hoeverre het jarenlange voortbestaan van grensdoden op de Middellandse Zee een schending van het recht op leven onder artikel 2 EVRM door Europese Staten oplevert. Verder publiceert zij juridische artikelen, blogs en opiniestukken over onder meer EU-beleid betreffende (particuliere) opsporings- en reddingsoperaties op zee, grensdoden aan de Europese buitengrenzen en aansprakelijkheid van EU-agentschappen.

Lisa-Marie Komp obtained her doctorate in October 2020 under the supervision of Prof. T. Spijkerboer (supervisor) and Prof. L. Slingenberg (co-supervisor) with the study titled "Border Deaths at Sea and the Right to Life in the European Convention on Human Rights". Her doctoral research concerned state liability for extra-territorial human rights violations. Moreover, she analysed to what extent the prolonged existence of border deaths in the Mediterranean Sea amount to a violation of the right to life under Article 2 ECHR by European states. Additionally, she publishes legal articles, blogposts and op-eds on, for example, EU-policy regarding (private) search and rescue operations at sea, border deaths at the European external borders and liability of EU-institutions.
