A scholar of international standing, she is a lifelong member of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and holds the title of Knight of the Order of the Academic Oak, a state rank awarded by the President of Albania.
Klarita's academic journey began in Tirana, where she completed her M.A. in General Economics at the University of Tirana. She went on to earn her M.Phil. and Ph.D. in Economics through the prestigious Tinbergen Institute and the University of Amsterdam. She then built her career at the University of Amsterdam across successive roles - Postdoctoral researcher, Assistant Professor, and Associate Professor. Before joining VU Amsterdam, she held a professorship at the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the European University Institute (EUI) in Florence.
