Kelley De Polt


External PhD Candidate, Faculty of Science, Water and Climate Risk

Personal information

Kelley De Polt is an external PhD researcher at the department of Water and Climate Risk of the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM). She is also associated with the department of Biogeochemical Integration at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry (Jena, Germany).

She has a background in geography from East Carolina University (MSc) and Meteorology from North Carolina State University (MSc). Her master thesis focused on drivers of compound coastal water events in Eastern North Carolina.

Currently, her PhD research focusses on understanding the interactions and feedbacks between hazards and these natural and human systems, specifically focused on the relationships between hazard intensity and their impact (i.e., intensity-damage relationships). Kelley’s work is part of the Horizon 2020 funded MYRIAD-EU project that aims to develop forward-looking disaster risk management pathways.
