Dr. Katja Swider is an Assistant Professor at the Amsterdam Center for Migration and Refugee Law, researching citizenship and statelessness.
Prior to joining the VU, Dr. Swider worked as a Senior Research Associate at the University of East Anglia on an ESRC-funded project "Negotiating Brexit".
Dr. Swider was the primary grant recepient from Dutch Scientific Organisation (NWO) for conducting her doctoral project entitled "A Rights-Based Approach to Statelessness". The resulting PhD was defended in 2018 at the University of Amsterdam.
Katja is passionate about teaching and innovation in higher education, with a special interest in flipped classroom approaches and blended learning. She currently teaches a course on 'Global Migration Governance' in the Law in Society Bachelor and a course on 'Human Rights and Citizenship' within the Law in Global Society Minor, in addition to supervising Bachelor and Master theses.
