prof. dr. Judith E. Bosmans

Full Professor, Faculty of Science, Health Sciences

Full Professor, Amsterdam Public Health, APH - Mental Health

Full Professor, Amsterdam Public Health, APH - Methodology

Personal information

Judith Bosmans (1976) obtained her MSc in Medical Informatics in 1999. After a brief period as a junior researcher at ICIN, she started her PhD project in 2002 at the EMGO research institute. In 2006, she defended her PhD thesis “Cost-effectiveness of treatments for depression in primary care”.

Since 2005, Judith Bosmans works at the department of Health Sciences at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam where she is head of the section Health Technology Assessment. In 2020, she was appointed as full professor in Methodology of Health Technology Assessment.

Over the years, Judith Bosmans has supervised a large number of applied cost-effectiveness studies. In the last few years, Judith Bosmans has focused her research more and more on the development of new methods for cost-effectiveness studies. In 2017, she managed to obtain a highly prestigious Vidi grant to further develop her research group. Her Vidi project “Time to get real! Using real world data to assess cost-effectiveness” aims to develop and evaluate methods to perform cost-effectiveness studies using real world data. Judith Bosmans is also extensively involved in educational activities at the Bachelor, Master and post-initial level. She considers this an essential part of her work, since teaching allows her to train future researchers and decision makers in the appropriate conduct and use of cost-effectiveness studies. In this way, knowledge generated by her research group will be disseminated outside her group, and – more importantly – dissemination of this knowledge will help to keep the Dutch healthcare system affordable.

Research

My research focusses on the development and evaluation of (statistical) methods for economic evaluations (cost-effectiveness studies). Additionally, I am involved in a large number of applied economic evaluations.
