My research spans wildfires, forestry, and biodiversity conservation. I am particularly interested in the relationships between fire regimes and key aspects of global change, including climate change, land-use changes, biodiversity loss, and changes in biogeochemical cycles. In recent years, my work has focused on lightning-ignited wildfires worldwide. My goal is to build a fundamental understanding of the role of lightning fires in the Earth system. This research not only advances basic ecological understanding but also drives methodological innovations and supports evidence-based management and policy on wildfires. In my research, I combine field and laboratory studies, statistical analyses, machine learning and remote sensing to develop multi-scale insights, while maintaining a strong commitment to reproducible research practices and fostering global collaborations.
