Iza Eerkens, MSc

Personal information

Iza Eerkens is a PhD candidate at the Department of Spatial Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, supervised by Menusch Khadjavi. She holds a BSc in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from VU Amsterdam (2023) and a research master's degree in Multidisciplinary Economics from Utrecht University (2025), where her research focused on climate resilience in pastoralist households in Kenya and Ethiopia. Her PhD research sits at the intersection of behavioral, environmental, and development economics, examining the role of artificial intelligence in fostering sustainable development, with a regional focus on Zambia. She works on the interaction between AI tools and sustainable behavior in development contexts, with the aim of enhancing climate resilience in vulnerable communities. She will teach in the master's course Environmental and Resource Economics.
