Hongmei is an interdisciplinary researcher specialising in environmental policy, planning, and governance. Her empirical research explores various dimensions relating to the environment, including green infrastructure, local food systems, and stormwater management. Currently, she is working on the Urban Agriculture project (https://foodcityboost.eu/) in Environmental Geography at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM).
Before joining IVM, she worked in the Department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning at Utrecht University.

Utrecht: Collaborated with NGOs (BuurtNatuur030; Plandel.nl) to examine grassroots initiatives enhancing community resilience.
Michigan: Partnered with tribal communities, municipal authorities, and the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region to strengthen local food systems.
Shanghai: Contributed to the development and implementation of green roof and wall policies within China’s Sponge City programme.
