Bert Steens is the program director and a professor in the Executive Master’s program in Finance & Control at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He regularly advises businesses on management accounting and control issues, which increasingly involves the application of finance analytics. His industry experience comes from his roles as a partner of EY (1999 – 2001 and 2005 – 2018) and vice president of Capgemini (Cap Gemini Ernst & Young). He is a qualified econometrician (MSc Erasmus University Rotterdam EUR), chartered controller (‘RC’, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) and Master of Change Management (SIOO Utrecht), and he holds a PhD for his research on the role of transfer pricing in economic value creation, a project in which data analytics played an important role. On the Executive Master’s program, Bert teaches the courses Investment Appraisal & Business Valuation, Management Accounting and Data Analytics applications in Management Accounting, and he supervises research based on data-analytics. Research areas include transfer pricing, cost accounting, controllership and performance management.
