Personal information

Since 2019, De Jong is professor of Legal History at Legal Theory and Legal History. She studied Classics (UvA), Linguistics (UvA), Law (RuG) and Philosophy (RuG). She obtained her PhD in 2008 with the dissertation Digestenonderwijs van Stephanus (RuG). Her expertise lies in the reception of Roman law in the early modern period and in Byzantine law, particularly the Basilica.

Sinds 2019 is de Jong Hoogleraar Rechtsgeschiedenis bij Rechtstheorie en Rechtsgeschiedenis. Zij studeerde Klassieke Talen (UvA), Algemene Taalwetenschap (UvA), Rechten (RuG) en Filosofie (RuG). Zij is in 2008 gepromoveerd op het proefschrift Digestenonderwijs van Stephanus (RuG). Haar expertise betreft de receptie van het Romeinse recht in de vroegmoderne tijd en het Byzantijnse recht van de Basilica.

Research

De Jong's research is focused on the reception of Roman law in the early modern period and on Byzantine Law and takes place within the research programme ‘Public and private interests in finance and business law’ of the Kooijmans–Institute, more specifically the subprogramme ‘Legal certainty’. It is also part of the programme ‘Contract Law and Law of Obligations in General’ of the Research School Ius Commune.

De Jongs onderzoek is gericht op de receptie van het Romeinse recht in de vroegmoderne tijd en op het Byzantijnse recht en vindt plaats binnen het onderzoeksprogramma ‘Publieke en private belangen in het financieel- en ondernemingsrecht’ van het Kooijmans-Instituut, meer in het bijzonder van het subprogramma ‘Rechtszekerheid’. Het maakt ook deel uit van het programma ‘Contract Law and Law of Obligations in General’ van de onderzoeksschool Ius Commune.

Teaching

De Jong teaches the course Legal History and the master’s course European Legal History: From Archives to AI. She also serves as the honours coordinator of the Faculty of Law.

De Jong geeft de cursus Rechtsgeschiedenis en het mastervak Europese Rechtsgeschiedenis: Van Archieven tot AI. Ook is zij honourscoördinator van de Faculteit der Rechtsgeleerdheid.
