I am a (former) assistant professor at A-Life, section Systems Biology at VU University. From 1979, I studied denitrification, manganese redox transformations, microbial desulfurization of coal, free-living and symbiotic nitrogen fixation, succinate transport, pathogenic bacteria, and microbial models. As of 2000, I became interested in the philosophy of (systems) biology. I am retired but still active in systems microbiology (kinetic modeling of ammonium transport and assimilation in E. coli).
