I work as a marine geologist and micropaleontologist at the Department of Earth Sciences of the VU Faculty of Sciences. My research interests are focused on the understanding of the Late Pleistocene history of ocean circulation and climate. I use various proxies and approaches to resonstruct the past states of ocean-circulation and climate to understand how natural climate change took place over the past one million years. I teach and coordinate courses in statistics and data-analysis (level 200), marine geology and paleoclimatology (level 400) and supervise BSc- and MSc- research projects and theses. I have served many years on the Master Earth Sciences program committe as member and chairmain and since January 2024 I am the chairman of the examiniation board of BSc. Aardwetenschappen (AW), BSc. Aarde Economie en Duurzaamheid (AED), MSc Earth Sciences (ES) and MSc Hydrology (HYD).
