Francesca Bacco is an Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Department of Management and Organisation of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
dr. Francesca Bacco
Visiting Fellow, School of Business and Economics, Management and Organisation
Francesca studies how individuals concerned with introducing novel products and strategies (e.g., entrepreneurs) make sense of their strategies and communicate them to others. Within this context, her research explores systematic approaches (e.g., rational experimentation) and discursive tactics that can help these individuals be more effective in framing their strategies for themselves and others. She is a mixed-method researcher using both qualitative and experimental methods. Her research has won or has been nominated for different awards, including the William F. Glueck Best Paper Award from the STR Division of the Academy of Management (2023), and the Best Entrepreneurship paper from the OMT Division of the Academy of Management (2019).
At the VU, Francesca coordinates and teaches entrepreneurship- and innovation-related courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Since 2022, she has been the coordinator of the Bachelor's course "Foundations and Forms of Entrepreneurship" within the Entrepreneurship Minor and the Master's course "International Entrepreneurship" as part of the VU/UvA joint MSc in Entrepreneurship. Additionally, starting in 2023, she has taken on the coordination of the MBA course "Business Modelling for Innovation."
Additionally, she has teaching experience in the areas of strategic organisation design, idea validation and design thinking, (qualitative and experimental) research methods, and academic writing at the undergraduate, master's, and executive levels.
