Feride Öykü Sefiloglu

External PhD Candidate, Faculty of Science, Chemistry for Environment & Health

Personal information

Öykü completed her undergraduate studies in Chemical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University and during her bachelor she studied at Technical University of Munich for one semester on an Erasmus exchange program. Afterwards, she obtained her master’s degree in Environmental Technology at Bogaziçi University in Turkey. During her master studies, she worked on a project investigating emerging contaminants on a polluted watershed and gained experience in the field of environmental pollution monitoring of different matrices including fresh water, agricultural soil and crop.

Currently she is one of the Early Stage Researchers of MSCA-ITN LimnoPlast project, which aims to combine environmental, technical and social sciences in order to tackle the problem of microplastics in freshwaters from its sources to potential solutions. During her PhD at VUA, Öykü will work on developing analytical methods for the detection and quantification of microplastics in various environmental matrices associated with human exposure via freshwater i.e.  drinking water, fish from aquaculture. She will also study microplastic distribution in Amsterdam canal network and model fate and transport of microplastics in the riverine system.

Her research interests include development of analytical methods for the analysis of contaminants in the environment, occurrence and fate of contaminants and environmental modelling.
