Evgenia Motchenkova is an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. She is also a Research Fellow at the Tinbergen Institute and the Tilburg Law and Economics Center (TILEC). She holds a PhD in Economics from Tilburg University, awarded in 2005.

Evgenia’s research spans multiple dimensions of competition policy, ranging from cartel enforcement and the analysis of market dominance to merger regulation and emerging regulatory challenges in digital markets. Her work applies advanced game theory and microeconomics to contemporary issues in industrial organization, market structure, firm behaviour, and innovation incentives. She actively engages with key stakeholders, including the European Commission, the Dutch Competition Authority (ACM), and leading law and economics research centers such as TILEC (Tilburg), CCP (UEA), ACLE (UvA), and CLES (UCL).
In 2024, she received an Incentive Grant from the School of Business and Economics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam for her project on Competition and Innovation in Digital Markets.
Evgenia teaches bachelor, master, and post‑graduate courses in microeconomics, industrial organisation, competition policy, and game theory. She previously served as Chair of the Programme Committee MSc Economics, and from 2026 she takes on the role of Programme Coordinator for the Minor Economics at the School of Business and Economics. She contributes to education across multiple levels and institutions, including Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam University College, and the Tinbergen Institute.
