Esther obtained her Master’s degree in Biological Health Science (cum laude) at Maastricht University in 2003. In that same year, she began her PhD project on the burden and treatment of obesity and associated co-morbidities in the general adult population at the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care, University Medical Center Utrecht and the Municipal Health Service Utrecht. During her PhD, she obtained a Master’s degree in Epidemiology at the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences, Erasmus University Rotterdam (2005) and conducted research at the Framingham Heart Study, Framingham, Massachusetts, USA (2007). After defending her PhD in 2008, she worked as a cabin attendant, clinical research assistant at Julius Clinical and health market researcher at GfK Netherlands. Currently, she is the program coordinator of the Bachelor Health and Life Sciences and involved in teaching several courses.
