Associate Professor, Research Programmes - Social Sciences, The Social Context of Aging (SoCA)

Personal information

I am an associate professor at the Department of Sociology of VU Amsterdam and Program Director of the research master Social Sciences for a Digital Society. In my research I'm interested in virtually anything that concerns people's personal relations and how those affect their behavior, attitudes, and resources. Topics I have studied most over the past years include: social and psychological consequences of Internet use; involvement in voluntary associations and volunteering; social trust and support; and individualization.

Grants

From 2013 to 2016 I worked on research project funded by a NWO VENI grant entitled: “Life events & well-being: The role of the Internet in coping processes”. After this project I have extended this line of research by looking at many aspects of how the Internet is changing our lives and social interactions.
