David Krame

PhD Candidate, Faculty of Science, Mathematics

Personal information

David Krame Kadurha is a PhD candidate in the Department of Mathematics at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, working under the supervision of Alessandro Zocca and Sandjai Bhulai. His research is part of the VIDI project "Power Network Optimization in the Age of Climate Extremes", where he focuses on the sub-project Optimizing Weather-Resilient Grid Operations.

Drawn to optimization and the mathematical foundations of intelligent systems, David believes that sequential decision-making under uncertainty is the most general framework for understanding and building such systems. His research interests span optimization under uncertainty broadly, with a particular focus on stochastic optimization and robust optimization, as well as differentiable optimization and decision-focused learning, reinforcement learning, energy systems and network science. His PhD work applies these methods to improve the planning and mainly operation of power grids under climate-driven stresses such as extreme weather events and variable renewable energy sources.

Prior to his PhD, David obtained an MSc in Mathematical Sciences (Operational Research with Data Science) from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and earlier, an MSc in Mathematical Sciences (Data Science) from the African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) in Cameroon.
