Born in Sweden, Benjamin obtained a MSc in Political Science from Lund University in 2015. Before starting his PhD project, he worked three years for a non-profit organisation in the international development sector.
Benjamin Leidorf-Tidå is an Assistant Professor of Public Administration at VU Amsterdam. Benjamin researches reputation, legitimacy, and trust in regulators, watchdog institutions (e.g. Supreme Audit Institutions and Ombudsmen) and democratic account-holders (e.g. legislators). His current research focuses on the accountability and regulation of algorithms and AI in particular.
Before being appointed an Assistant Professor at VU Amsterdam, Benjamin was a PhD researcher in the research project "Reputation Matters in the Regulatory State". His PhD research investigated how various EU account-holders shape their account-holding roles, and how the divide their attention between different EU agencies as account-givers.
His research has been published in the peer-reviewed academic journals Public Administration, the Journal of Common Market Studies, the Journal of European Public Policy, and Perspectives on Public Management and Governance.
Well-versed in several both qualitative and quantitative research methods, Benjamin teaches research methods and supervises theses on Master level. He also teaches in the Master course Good Governance
