Ayoola Apolola


PhD Candidate, Faculty of Science, Water and Climate Risk

Personal information

Ayoola Apolola is a PhD Candidate in the Water and Climate Risk department of the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM) at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. His research explores extreme sea level variability in future climate conditions on the global scale hybridizing high-resolution global climate and hydrodynamic models with tailored statistical and machine learning approaches to support climate mitigation and adaptation plans. His research is part of the CHANCE project, funded by the Netherlands Organisation of Scientific Research (NWO).

Ayoola has a strong background in Urban planning and Climate science. He holds a Bachelor’s in Urban and Regional Planning from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, and a Master’s degree in Climate Change Science and Policy from the University of Bristol, thus bringing a diverse range of skills and expertise to the field of environmental studies. During his master’s studies, he extensively researched and modelled the impact of climate-induced pluvial flood risk in Lagos, Nigeria.
