ir. Angela Camarena Barba, MSc

PhD Candidate, Faculty of Science, Environmental Geography

Personal information

Angela Camarena Barba is a PhD candidate within the Environmental Geography group at the Institute for Environmental Studies (IVM). She has a background in biotechnology engineering and hold a master’s degree in Engineering and Policy Analysis from TU Delft. Her research interests lie at the intersection of environmental economics, trade policy, and land-use modelling, with a strong emphasis on integrating complex systems approaches to inform decision-making.

Before joining VU Amsterdam, Angela worked on topics related to integrated assessment modelling, non-tariff trade barriers, and genetic biodiversity preservation. Her current research as part of the ENTICE project (ENhance understanding of Trade Impacts on Climate, industries and the Environment), explores how international trade policies influence land use, emissions, and broader climate impacts. She uses the GLOBIOM model to analyse these trade-environment interactions, contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of sustainability challenges in global trade.

Complex systems modelling, trade-environment interactions, land-use change, agricultural and forestry sector dynamics.
