Current research highlights a complex interplay between teacher supply and demand, shaped by demographic trends, policy changes, and shifting societal expectations. Many education systems are experiencing persistent shortages, particularly in STEM subjects and special education, exacerbated by factors such as high attrition rates, limited career progression, and regional disparities.
At the same time, the role of teachers is expanding, requiring greater adaptability, digital competence, and lifelong professional development. Understanding these labour market dynamics is essential for developing evidence-based strategies that can attract, retain, and support a qualified and motivated teaching workforce. Our research aims to contribute to that understanding by analysing key trends, challenges, and policy responses within the context of the modern educational labour market.
