More Attention for the Role of Sex and Gender in ADHD

Currently, there is a lack of reliable Dutch information regarding the differences between men and women with ADHD and the role of sex and gender in relation to symptoms, including experienced stigma, the prognosis, diagnosis, and treatment of ADHD. This is despite the fact that key stakeholders, namely people with ADHD, their parents/caregivers, and healthcare and education professionals, indicate a great need to disseminate this knowledge.

Goal

The goal of the project is to reduce knowledge gaps among key stakeholders by developing and sharing accessible information together with all stakeholders.

Expected results

We will engage in dialogue with all key stakeholders to identify where their knowledge gaps lie. Based on the input from the stakeholders, we will generate a Dutch overview article for healthcare and education professionals. We will also organize a webinar and accessible educational texts for parents, healthcare, and education professionals. We will focus on the role of sex and gender in areas such as recognition/diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment. With this accessible information, we will reduce the knowledge gap regarding the role of sex and gender in ADHD, aim to decrease stigma surrounding ADHD (particularly among women), and improve support for children and adults with ADHD.
