Conference: AI for Education The Netherlands 2026

The AI for Education The Netherlands 2026 conference will be hosted by Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, from 29 - 30 October 2026.

Theme

The AI for Education The Netherlands 2026 conference will explore "Research meets Practice: Bridging the Gap between Research and Classroom Implementation”

The theme of the conference shall inspire interdisciplinary discussions among and between researchers and practitioners. The conference aims to facilitate dialogue among and between researchers, practitioners, and policymakers, crossing conventional boundaries and laying the groundwork for innovative approaches that can positively influence the trajectory of our future.

Venue

Amsterdam, the capital city of the Netherlands, offers a captivating blend of rich history, vibrant culture, and iconic canal-side architecture. Situated in the western part of the country, Amsterdam serves as the cultural and economic heart of the nation. Renowned for its beautifully preserved canal belt, the city holds UNESCO World Heritage status and showcases a harmonious mix of 17th-century merchant houses, historic churches, and contemporary design. It is home to leading universities and international institutions, fostering a dynamic atmosphere with a diverse and lively population. Amsterdam embraces a distinctive balance of tradition and innovation, offering a wide array of world-class museums, galleries, culinary experiences, and green urban spaces, making it an enchanting destination for visitors and a beloved hub for locals.

Discover the Tracks 

  1. Teacher Professional Development & AI Literacy Dedicated to empowering educators, this track explores frameworks and tools for teacher professional development and AI literacy in both pre- and in-service contexts.
  2. Field Reports: Narratives of Adoption and Practice Focusing on real-world application, this track invites critical narratives and "stories from the wild" regarding the challenges and successes of AI adoption in classrooms.
  3. Ethics, Policy, and Responsible Implementation Centered on responsible innovation, this track addresses the ethical, legal, and societal implications of AI, translating principles into practical guidelines for schools.
  4. Future Horizons: Emerging Technologies in Education Looking toward 2030 and beyond, this track investigates high-potential research and emerging technologies such as VR, AR, and neuro-education.

The first call for proposals will follow soon. 

The organizing committee
The organizing committee consists of dr. Sharon Calor (Vrije Universiteit, UvA and AUAS, The Netherlands), Prof. dr. Wouter van Joolingen (University Utrecht, The Netherlands), Dr. Y. Cai (Nanyang Technological University, Singapore), dr. Maurice Schols (University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands), and dr. Sui Lin Goei (Windesheim, The Netherlands).

Keynote speakers
There will be keynote presentations by:

  • Dr. Simon See,  Global Head Nvidia AI Technology Centre NVIDIA; 
  • Dr. Eleni Mangina, Professor of Computer Science, University College Dublin, Ireland; 
  • Dr. Bert Bredeweg, Professor of Science Education, Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, The Netherlands; 
  • Dr. Y. Cai, Head of the Computer-aided Engineering Labs, and the Digitalization Cluster with the Energy Research Institute @ NTU, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore; 
  • Dr. Ingrid Winkler, Head of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality for Industrial Innovation Lab, SENAI University, Brazil.

HackAStone winners announced
Winners of HackAStone, a global contest on AI for Education, will be announced at the Conference on AI for Education Holland 2026 on 30 October 2026.​ In this global contest any tertiary students matriculated in any higher learning institutions in the world can register for the contest. The theme of the contest is “Agentic AI for Education”. https://hackastone.varteledu.com/
