Leadership and Resilience: Co-Creation with undocumented youth

A group of undocumented youth and students are working together with VU researchers, activists, and social workers to better understand how to create inclusive educational environments.

This research is part of the Co-Creation for Inclusive Knowledges Lab

Following a successful arts-based research project with Framer Framed in 2023, a co-creative research group was formed to explore key topics of importance to undocumented youth:  mental well-being, especially for youth attending university, transitions from higher education to work, and inclusiveness in institutions of higher education.  The project involves three researchers from VU Amsterdam, dr. K Maeve Powlick, Evelyn Vlasman, and Gabriel Briar, and a researcher from de Haagse Hogeschool, Ruben Boers along with other members of the research group, a network of undocumented youth who provide ongoing input, and several societal partners.  Data collected through the project is being used, in partnership with ASKV and Stichting Leergeld Amsterdam, to create workshops for educators in secondary schools and institutions of higher education to improve experiences of undocumented youth as they reach the end of high school and transition into adult hood and higher education.  The project is funded through an Nationale Wetenschapelijk Agenda small projects grant as part of the “Route Resilience.”
