Share
17 July 2026

The VU Artscience Valorisation Hub (2027) is a new initiative at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam that transforms creative science and art prototypes into real-world applications.

It focuses on sustainable materials, plant-based sensor technologies, and innovative public programmes, developed in collaboration with academic, industry, and cultural partners. The aim is to turn research into practical solutions, new partnerships, and entrepreneurial opportunities that benefit society. Work and prototypes will be showcased in the atrium of the VO building of the VU The hub is led by Dr. Raoul N. Frese from the Biophysics of Photosynthesis department, who over the past years has built the VU Artscience Lab into a recognized platform for interdisciplinary collaboration. His work connects physics, biology, art, and design, resulting in internationally visible projects presented at festivals, exhibitions, and in media. Through this work, he has pioneered new forms of science-driven artistic research and public engagement, laying the foundation for today’s move toward innovation, valorisation, and societal impact.
