This is a program that allows ongoing Dutch research projects to include researchers from Ukraine on their teams.
A total of nine ongoing NWO projects receive support from this scheme. For the VU, this means that Y. Zavhorodnia from the National University Odesa Law Academy is joining Marleen Weulen Kranenbarg's project Cyber-criminology and Cybersecurity: Bridging divides through an empirical case study of hacking .
The research focuses on how hacking works in both the Netherlands and Ukraine. Especially in Ukraine, cyber attacks play an important role within the current war situation. By combining data from both countries, the researchers want to better understand who hackers are, how they are recruited and cooperate, and how digital threats develop. The knowledge gained should help better prepare Europe for future cyber risks.
The NWO Hop-On Call is designed to support Ukrainian researchers to continue their scientific careers and expand their professional network within the Netherlands. In doing so, participating research teams offer not only a research place, but also guidance, advice and mentorship.
