The household robots are coming - or so we're told

Share
20 January 2026
Such a clever, humanoid robot helping in the household – it’s science fiction come true. It’s the AI industry dream come true, says Koen Hindriks, although he’s rather sceptical about it himself.

On 10 January an article appeared in the Volkskrant in which Koen Hindriks was interviewed by Niels Waarlo and Laurens Verhagen to comment on the latest developments on household robotics, a new trend that is happening now and was a main theme at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) this year. CES was full of promises about humanoid household robots and “zero-labor homes.”

Koen also wrote a LinkedIn article on the topic if you are interested. He argues that the tech is impressive, but the timelines, economics, and practical realities don’t add up yet.
