Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU Amsterdam) is proud to launch the new online Professional Certificate in Tax & Technology Programme in collaboration with the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD).

This fully online, self-paced learning programme is specially designed designed to equip tax professionals (worldwide) with the skills needed to navigate the rapidly evolving digital tax landscape.

As tax administrations worldwide accelerate their adoption of technology, the demand for professionals who can bridge traditional tax expertise with digital capabilities has never been greater. Developed in collaboration with leading academics, industry practitioners, and experts in global tax policy, this certificate offers one of the only comprehensive tax technology programmes available globally.

Providing Tax expertise in the AI era

The Professional Certificate in Tax & Technology Programme provides participants with a solid foundation in how technology, automation and AI are transforming the tax function globally. The course combines theoretical and conceptual insight with practical application, equipping participants to work confidently with data analytics, automation and emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence in a tax context.

"Taxation no longer takes place solely within legislation, but in databases, algorithms and reporting systems."
- Prof A.H. (Albert) Bomer, professor of Tax & Technology, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam

Strengthening cooperation between VU Amsterdam and IBFD

This co‑developed programme marks a new chapter in the partnership between VU Amsterdam and IBFD reinforcing both institutions’ reputations as leading authorities in international taxation, research, and professional education.

"In collaboration with VU Amsterdam, we're addressing tax professionals' need to understand and apply rapid technological developments in the digital tax landscape to their daily practice."
- Wieneke Brandt, Director Product Management & Delivery, IBFD and Member, IBFD Executive Board

By joining forces, both organisations aim to reach a wider audience and take a strong position within the fast-growing field of tax technology, meeting rising demand for expert‑led, independent, and software‑agnostic training.

Flexible and globally accessible

The course has a fully online, self-scheduled structure, making it accessible to professionals in all regions and time zones. This allows tax teams and practitioners of all kind to upskill without interrupting business operations.
