The world is currently going through difficult times, with wars affecting the lives of many people worldwide. As part of the Aurora Symposium on Global Citizenship, WO&MEN@VU is organizing a panel discussion on women in war zones, focusing on resilience, resistance, cross-border solidarity and the role of women in the diaspora. Although women are often portrayed as mere victims, they play an active role in shaping social, political and community-based responses to war.
Bringing together activists from four different countries, the panel will examine the daily lives of women in war and conflict situations, as well as the ways in which they develop strategies of resilience, build networks of care, mobilize activism, produce knowledge and challenge authoritarian structures. One of the goals of the panel is to discuss how women can support each other across borders. The speakers are Mina Khani (Iran), Ruaa Ahmed (Sudan), Saba Hamzah (Yemen) and Htet Oo Wai (Myanmar).
