6 July 2026
Six application-oriented projects, including that of professor of Critical Brain Dynamics in Health and Disease Klaus Linkenkaer-Hansenl of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, can get underway with funding from the Open Technology Program from the NWO's Applied and Technical Sciences domain.

The Neurophysiological Biomarker Platform: Translating model-informed EEG biomarkers into clinical decision support

EEG research has produced many candidate biomarkers for guiding personalized treatment, yet most remain disconnected from clinical care. This project is a collaborative team featuring Klaus Linkenkaer-Hansen, Arthur-Ervin Avramiea, Marina Diachenko and in close collaboration with child psychiatrist Hilgo Bruining of Amsterdam UMC, Location VUmc, will develop an open-source platform that enables researchers and clinicians to build, validate, and deploy EEG biomarkers at scale. By accelerating the path from computational modeling and EEG research to clinical implementation, the project aims to make precision medicine a routine part of daily patient care.

With this allocation, NWO stimulates the development of new technologies that offer solutions to diverse societal and scientific issues. The awarded projects combine scientific excellence with tangible impact. Thanks to OTP funding, top scientists are given the opportunity to transform their ideas into solutions that contribute to various societal challenges.

Open Technology Programme
The Open Technology Programme provides funding for application-oriented technical-scientific research that is free and unrestricted and is not hindered by disciplinary boundaries. The programme offers companies and other organisations an accessible way to participate in scientific research that is intended to lead to societal and/or scientific impact.
