Six application-oriented projects, including that of assistant professor of biophotonics and medical imaging Matz Liebel of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, can get underway with funding from the Open Technology Program from the NWO's Applied and Technical Sciences domain.
Quantitative Nanoparticle Analysis (QnA)
Nanomedicine holds great promise for treating diseases in smarter, more targeted and hence less side-effect prone ways. But behind the scenes, it is surprisingly hard to characterise the intricate nano-formulations that make it work, especially when they come in very heterogeneous, almost messy, mixed batches. Matz Liebel tackles this challenge by creating better tools to understand and measure these complex mixtures. The result? An enabling technology to pave a clearer path to safer, more reliable nanomedicines.
With this allocation, NWO stimulates the development of new technologies that offer solutions to diverse societal and scientific issues. The awarded projects combine scientific excellence with tangible impact. Thanks to OTP funding, top scientists are given the opportunity to transform their ideas into solutions that contribute to various societal challenges.
