Last summer, the license for Epigeum’s online course 'Research Integrity' was extended through July 2027. This course is used in several faculties as part of research integrity training for PhD candidates. The one-year extension is intended as a transitional measure.
A number of faculties have expressed concerns about the Epigeum course. In summary, they believe that the course is too basic for PhD students, that it focuses too much on the British context, and that its learning outcomes are unclear. Many faculties therefore prefer to develop their own teaching materials and use them in an interactive format.
To give the faculties that are currently using Epigeum the opportunity to find an alternative, the research directors have decided to extend the Epigeum license by one year.
If, as a faculty liaison, you notice that there are questions within your faculty or school regarding the Epigeum license, please refer them to Morgan and Jolien (epigeum.ub@vu.nl). We will then try to assist the faculties and, where necessary, refer them to the Center for Research Integrity and Open Science (RIOS).
