In her inaugural lecture “On the Importance of Questioning Assumptions”, Julia Schaumburg addressed the critical role that challenging foundational premises plays in advancing both statistical modeling and societal understanding.
According to her questioning assumptions is crucial for developing new methods, gaining insights into societies, and making statistical models more realistic, particularly in financial risk. She argues that questioning assumptions is also a social responsibility, especially concerning issues like the climate crisis, leading her to apply econometrics to climate data and engage in activism.
