idea #8 alumni magazine for social and humanities scholars

02 June 2026

Social scientists and humanities scholars find themselves in the most diverse places imaginable. Where exactly? And in what roles? Through interviews, columns, articles and imagery, we offer them a well-deserved platform in alumni magazine idea #8, themed around global citizenship.

“Your actions, however small, are always part of a bigger whole. That asks something of us. It calls for curiosity, for stepping outside your own bubble. It calls for courage, for engaging in conversation, especially when it feels uncomfortable. And it calls for responsibility: not to look away, but to remain involved.”
Read the blog by Rector Magnificus Jeroen Geurts.

Cover interview

“Sometimes executives have no idea that what they do is completely at odds with what they say. I’m the one who tells them that. Those aren’t pennies dropping, but entire tower blocks.”
Read the cover interview with corporate anthropologist Danielle Braun.

Week in pictures

PPE alumnus Simba Martens works on the foreign news desk at RTL Nieuws. “We try to engage both the minds and hearts of our audience, because ultimately the news is about people.”
Take a look behind the scenes.

Also in idea

“A senior Dutch civil servant once told me that his work for the government was for ‘all humanity’. No lack of moral ambition, you might think. But statements like that raise an uncomfortable question: what happens when someone thinks, speaks or acts in the name of humanity?”
Read the column by Paul Bosman and more in idea #8.
