During the forum, the students presented their own shadow report at a multi-stakeholder hearing. “Although the Global Compact for Migration promotes inclusive participation, students also experienced how limited access to these processes can still be,” says Arbaoui. “That made it especially meaningful that they were ultimately able to take the floor themselves.”
Alongside attending debates and negotiations, the group also organized two side events on inclusive data collection and the integration of the Global Compact for Migration into academic education. The experiences gained during the week will be integrated into teaching at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, including the course Global Migration Governance.
