BeyondTheEdge joins the conversation to bridge mathematics activities in the Global South and North
Thinking outside the box: What makes partnerships in mathematics between the Global South and Global North equitable and sustainable? This question was at the center of a workshop at the London Mathematical Society (LMS) organized by Anne-Sophie Kaloghiros, Diletta Martinelli, Frank Neumann, and VU mathematician Christian Bick. This brought a productive exchange of perspectives from mathematics research and education, development science, and funders across Africa and Europe. A particular focus were lessons learned from the Mathematics in Africa: Research and Mobility (MARM) Partnership Grants from the LMS. The meeting started a new conversation and provides a starting point to collect good practice that can inform future collaborations and funding opportunities. Mathematics collaborations with the Global South are also a topic of the next BeyondTheEdge network meeting at Politecnico di Torino November.
