LEAF (Laboratory Efficiency Assessment Framework), developed by University College London (UCL), is an international programme that supports laboratories in improving the sustainability of their research practices. Achieving the Bronze level reflects that CNCR has taken concrete steps in reducing energy and water consumption, minimizing waste, and improving the efficient use of materials and equipment. By critically assessing daily lab practices and implementing targeted improvements, research can significantly reduce its environmental impact without compromising quality.
This milestone is the result of a collective effort within CNCR, supported by the Green Office. Special thanks go to the founders of the GreenCNCR group: Michelle Bosquet, Desiree Schut (technician), Kim Hubregtse (project manager), and Clara Hartmann (PhD).
Looking ahead, CNCR aims to achieve Silver and Gold LEAF certifications. In addition, the lab seeks to actively support and inspire other VU labs to adopt more sustainable practices through their own LEAF journeys.
