A course for PhD candidates and postdocs exploring careers inside or outside academia
The Career Discovery Programme is a structured career development programme designed to support PhD candidates and postdocs in preparing for their next professional step (beyond academia). During the programme, you explore possible career directions that align with your interests, values, and strengths. You gain insight into different sectors such as corporate organisations, start-ups, non-profits, and government, and become familiar with the types of roles available to academics beyond traditional academic pathways. The programme consists of four half-day workshops. In addition, personal online coaching is part of the programme. The programme starts in early November with a short intake conversation, and the workshops will take place between November 2026 and February 2027.

For whom?
The programme is primarily designed for PhD candidates, typically in their 2nd to 4th year and for early postdocs who wish to explore their next career step.
Participants are expected to be motivated to explore or strengthen their position in the labour market and to actively engage in the workshops, assignments, and coaching. The programme supports those considering careers outside academia, as well as those still in exploration.
You are eligible when:
- You are motivated to strengthen your position in the labour market; AND/OR
- You want to look for a job outside of academia; AND/OR
- Are hesitating whether you want a job inside or outside academia;
- You can be physically present on the dates of all the workshops.
