The Abri barbecue on 15 September in the botanical garden at the Zuidas was an excellent opportunity to meet new colleagues, reconnect with existing colleagues, and on top of that, celebrate this years Excellence in Business Studies Awards.
As usual, there where two categories: the PhD Student Paper Award and the Best Junior Faculty Paper Award. The jury was impressed by the quality of the papers and had a hard time to select a winner. We express our gratitude to all the jury members who read all nominated papers and provided detailed feedback: Katharina Cepa, Omar Solinger, Kobe Millet, Eelke Wiersma, Victor Gilsing, and Sena Eruguz.
The Best PhD Student Paper Award was such a close call this year, that we decided to also award the runner-up in this category. With the Title: “A Multidimensional Model of Entrepreneurial Career Success: A literature review and research agenda”, published in the Journal of Management, we would like to congratulate Maria Tamontseva.
Then about the winner… One of the jury members finds the paper novel, original and interesting. Another jury member notes that the candidate identifies a previously overlooked consequence of digital transformation, introduces and empirically validates a novel explanatory mechanism using experimental evidence, and offers a practical intervention with direct implications for audit quality and public trust.
With the Title: “Inheriting Versus Developing Data Analytic Tests and Auditors’ Professional Skepticism”, published in the Journal of Accounting Research, we congratulate Xiaoxing Li.
Xiaoxing has accepted a position as an Assistant Professor at the Norwegian School of Economics and could unfortunately not be present.
The winner of the Best Junior Faculty Paper Award: nominated in this category were Wendy Groot, Judith Langerak, Edona Elshan, Claire Schulze Schleithoff and Farah Arshad.
About the winner – this is an impressive endeavour and fine contribution. One of the jury members praises the candidate for providing novel insights into the complementary performance effects of Robotic Process Automation and AI, its strong theoretical and empirical rigor based on large-scale international data, and its high practical relevance for organizations pursuing intelligent automation.
With the title: “Making business processes intelligent: Complementarities of combining robotic process automation and AI technologies”, published in the International Journal of Information Management, Farah Arshad won the Award. Unfortunately she could not be present.
