A day of dynamics, networks, and neuroscience

Share
9 March 2026
The Amsterdam Center for Dynamics and Computation co-organized an event that brought together the Dutch Network Science Society (NetSci NL) with the Systems & Network Neuroscience program of Amsterdam Neuroscience, and the MSCA Doctoral Network BeyondTheEdge to explore dynamics, network science, and its translation to neuroscience.

The day started with a mathematics-focused morning session on network dynamical systems with talks by Bob Rink (VU Mathematics) and Margherita Bertè (IMT Lucca), who is currently visiting the Department of Mathematics at the VU. They presented recent results on phase reduction and the dynamics of almost symmetric systems.

The first part of the afternoon was the NetSci NL winter event. It started with the network-focused presentations by Nelly Litvak (TU/Eindhoven) and Maxime Lucas (Namur/Louvain). This was followed by short talks from junior researchers and a presentation by the winner of the NetSci NL Young Talent Prize, Alberto Ceria.

The second part of the afternoon shifted to the translation of network science into neuroscience sponsored by the Systems & Network Neuroscience program of Amsterdam Neuroscience. The first talk by Stephen Coombes (University of Nottingham) gave insights into the effects of communication delays shaped by white matter on large-scale brain dynamics. In a second talk, Anne van Nifterick (Alzheimer Center Amsterdam) talked about hyperexcitability in Alzheimer’s disease.
