VU Amsterdam has been participating in the SustainaBul for over 10 years and sets itself the goal of achieving a Top 5 position every year. A total of 33 knowledge institutions participate. Van Hall Larenstein emerged as the winner, followed by Avans University of Applied Sciences and TU Eindhoven.
Results VU Amsterdam
We received the highest number of points possible on the themes Vision, Energy Use, Circular Economy and Biodiversity. But also scored near maximum points on Sustainability in Curriculum and Water Consumption.
Knowledge institutions are assessed based on 11 questions on sustainability in education, research and operations; and 3 best practices on pedagogy and didactics.
VU wins Best Practice
An award is also presented each year for a Best Practice. This year, VU wins with Climate Change & Sustainability Law Clinic that gives students experience in taking legal action for climate justice and sustainability.
Through hands-on legal research and strategic legal action, the Law Clinic works with civil society organisations, NGOs and activists to address climate damage and misleading sustainability claims.
Sustainability Policy VU Amsterdam
The Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam takes responsibility for people and planet through scientific and values-driven education, research and valorisation. This is VU Amsterdam's mission and it shows how strongly sustainability is embedded in VU Amsterdam.
We have developed ambitious sustainability goals where policies are developed in a progressive and inclusive way. For example, we recently launched the Sustainability University Assembly: a citizens' consultation on how to become an even more sustainable university.
Accelerating initiatives
Within VU Amsterdam, the Sustainability Office and Green Office, among others, ensure the acceleration of sustainability projects and initiatives. Think education, research, valorisation, operations and community activation.
