Sustained support for top athletes at VU Amsterdam

Share
28 November 2025
Students at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam who play top-level sport can continue to count on structural support in combining sport and study at top level. On Friday 28 November, VU Amsterdam and other higher education institutions and sports organisation NOC*NSF signed an agreement to this effect.

A total of thirty higher education institutions and NOC*NSF have signed the Flexible Education and Top-Level Sport Agreement and continue their cooperation for at least the next eight years. Implementation of the agreement takes place through the Flexible Education and Top-Level Sport Action Plan 3.0 (FLOT 3.0). This focuses on the educational and career perspectives of top-level sports students. The plan contains concrete agreements on flexible education, personal guidance, financial support and knowledge sharing between educational institutions and sports organisations.

This joint effort creates a solid foundation for top athletes to develop at the highest level, both athletically and for their broad future. This dual career gives them the space to develop sporting and social competences and continue to inspire the Netherlands with the power of top-level sport.

Letter of intent
The ratification of the cooperation follows a letter of intent signed at the end of September by Association of Universities of Applied Sciences, Universities of the Netherlands and NOC*NSF. In addition, the FLOT 3.0 action plan is supported by the ministries of OCW and VWS.
