During the Netherlands Mathematical Congress 2025, a poster session was organized for all PhD students in Mathematics across the country.
Riya Dogra, a PhD candidate in Mathematics at VU was awarded the first place of the KWG poster prize 2025 by The Royal Dutch Mathematical Society in the competition. Her winning poster showcases her ongoing research on the NWO M1 project, 'Topology of Molecular Braids' under the supervision of Dr. Senja Barthel.
The work investigates a class of braids characterised in the Artin Braid Group that are realised by certain interwoven molecular structures that arise in synthetic chemistry and addresses mathematical questions that emerge from this model. The properties of these objects are analysed by their braid diagrams and associated graph-theoretic models.
