Peels is Professor of Philosophy of Religion at the Faculty of Religion and Theology of Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Among other things, he leads an international study on the philosophy and theology of radicalization, and is one of the initiators of the Gravitation project Adapt! This investigates how societies can adapt to crises.
Bridging the gap between science and society
The KHMW was founded in 1752 to promote science and build a bridge between science and society. They do this, for example, with prizes and stipends. With his membership, Peels hopes to contribute to a further connection between research and society. "I am very happy and proud, and look forward to dedicating myself to this important cause."
Peels will be one of the 550 or so professors responsible for the scientific activities of the KHMW. Furthermore, the network has more than 400 social members as representatives of society and 50 international academics.
